For the first time ever, the Rotary Club of Destin has been chosen as a host club for a Rotary Youth Exchange Student from a different country! Any family living in Okaloosa County has the opportunity to host and Destin Rotary is looking for TWO host families for this first-time opportunity. Wherever the first host family resides will be, most likely, where the student will attend school. For those interested, family members over the age of 18 will undergo a background check. A Rotary member will also visit onsite and interview the potential host families.
The host family DOES NOT have to be a Rotarian, or have a child in the same high school, but can be anyone who is interested and passes the site visit and interview. If your family is interested, please contact Makenzie Mainland at mmainland@ryeflorida.org or Ryan Simas at ryan@destinstucco.com, or visit https://ryeflorida.org/host-a-student/ and fill out the Host Family application. Makenzie or Ryan can also set up a conference call to address any questions and/or concerns about hosting a high school student in their home. Host homes will be chosen by April 1. The student will arrive about two weeks before school starts in August and will either be leaving at the end of June or beginning of July.
The Rotary Club of Destin has been the proud sponsor of the Destin Middle School Interact Club for more than eight years. Now that Destin has a new charter high school, The Rotary Club of Destin has engaged with the new principal to establish a Destin High School Interact Club. Several Middle School Interact students who graduated to Destin High School will be able to introduce new students to join. Stay tuned for more exciting details on what our youth are doing on the humanitarian front in our community.
