We’ve all seen it happen — that teammate who’s usually great at seeing the big picture — the glue that holds everyone together. But every so often they suddenly seem… off. They’re quieter in meetings, less engaged, maybe even distant. It’s puzzling, especially when connection is normally their superpower.
One of my teammates is that person — typically amazing at bringing people together, unifying others and seeing how everything fits together. But recently, during a team meeting, they seemed disconnected, almost like they were isolating themselves from the conversation. It was like watching someone with a natural gift for connection stuck in the basement of disengagement!
This is a classic case of “basement” behaviors for someone with the Connectedness strength. When they feel out of sync with the group or the purpose, they can withdraw and struggle to make those connections. But at their core, they have an amazing ability to foster relationships, create unity, and see the value in every person and situation.
How can we help them get back to their “balcony” and shine? Here are three ideas:
- Encourage Dialogue – Invite them to share their insights on how people or ideas connect. Giving them a platform to speak can reignite their natural ability to unify.
- Create Group Experiences – Help them connect with others through team-building activities or shared goals. This fosters a sense of belonging and reignites their sense of purpose.
- Acknowledge Their Impact – Recognize when they help link people or ideas. Acknowledging their role in fostering connections can remind them of the value they bring to the team.
Let’s help them get back to being the incredible connector they are! Let’s talk.
