I once saw something written: It takes someone brave to be a mother, someone strong to raise a child and someone special to love someone other than herself. How true that is of moms!
I never knew how deeply my love could run for another person until the day my first child was born. Then I realized, my mother made a choice every day to put someone else (me) in front of herself—just like I did when I became a mother. In fact, she was always putting others in front of herself.
I lost my mom years ago. And I still miss her deeply. She was my best cheerleader!
My mom was talented—an artist (watercolor, pen & ink and acrylic), a graphic designer (before computers–imagine that!), a writer, a designer, a polished professional, a good wife and a good friend to her friends. And even though she has been in heaven quite some time, her friends are still my friends.
She loved God, her family and her husband. She left the best of herself to me—her legacy. The inspiration and wisdom I gained from her has continually played an important role in the shaping of my adult life, professionally and personally.
If your mom is still living, don’t forget to say “thank you” to her often, especially on Mother’s Day. And if she’s graduated to Heaven, thank God often for the memories you have and the life and legacy she left you.
Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms! Never underestimate the power of your love and your influence.
“Love…always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
1 Corinthians 13:7-8 NIV
