Local interior designer, Kim Schneider, says her love for interior design started very early in life. “As a young child, I’d ask for new curtains and a comforter for my birthday. I’d restyle rooms of furniture while my parents were at work.” Finally, in her late 30’s, she fulfilled her passion by attending design school and, afterward, launched her own interior design business.
Finding her way to Destin last year from Westlake Village, Calif., Kim says she’s a southern girl at heart, having been born and raised in New Orleans. Living in a variety of areas and loving to travel, Kim says this has influenced her design talent, helping her to take a space and make it its own. “When designing, I feel it’s important to balance functionality and aesthetics while considering the unique qualities of each space. I love a design challenge, especially when I conquer it, but my inspiration always comes from listening to you.” One of Kim’s particularly favorite design aspects is bringing color into a space. “I’m a happy girl anytime I can select paint colors and see them come to life!”
Kim believes everyone deserves to live and work in a space that brings comfort and enjoyment. “Your space should be a reflection of you or your company’s vision,” she says. “It should showcase your personality and function in a way that compliments your lifestyle or brand.”
Are you asking yourself, “Why should I hire an interior designer?” “Can I afford an interior designer?” Many people fear the cost of hiring an interior designer, but Kim hopes to dispel that uneasiness. Below are her top five reasons for hiring her interior design team for your next project:
1. Save time and money.
Have you ever chosen a paint color you loved, but then disliked it on the wall? Did you ever buy that perfect sofa, but discovered it was way too big for your space once it was delivered? Do you need to create an office space that is bright and functional? We can help you avoid expensive mistakes and save time. An experienced designer is used to working on a timeline with a budget.
2. A professional evaluation.
Hiring a trained interior designer is key to a successful project. A consultation helps you understand your needs, while learning what’s important to you. As an ASID Allied Member, we’re the extra set of eyes that are trained to see things you might miss.
3. A qualified liaison.
Do you talk contractor, understand HOA or office requirements? At Coastal Design by Kim, strong communication between the interior designer, homeowner or office manager and contractor is critical in time management and budget. Thinking outside the box is what we do all day long; we’re here to help you see the overall snapshot of your next project.
4. Better resources and contacts.
Selecting that perfect chandelier, rug, sofa or desk is much easier when you have the right vendors, and Coastal Design by Kim has plenty of those resources. We also work with many professional and reliable contractors, plumbers, electricians and other trades that we can recommend for your project.
5. Selling your home or office.
We can add an overall aesthetic appeal to your home or office, potentially boosting buyer interest above the competition. Color, balance and organization are just a few of the attributes that can help you achieve top dollar.
Overall, Kim says she’s developed a process so projects run smoothly. “We pay attention to all details and pride ourselves on top notch customer service, while working within your budget. Our main goal is to create a beautiful, functional space for you.”
Beyond interior design, Kim loves the beach, wine tasting and a great charcuterie board. Destin life invites you to continue to get to know Kim through her monthly Lifestyle column in future issues.
