Palms Resort Brings Dinner, Drinks, Live Magic & Comedy to Destin!

Magic plus ComedyAn action-packed live show featuring World-Class Magic, Comedy and Ventriloquism is now open with nightly shows at the newly renovated Palms Destin Resort Showroom.

Interactive magic takes place just inches away in an intimate showroom that offers excellent table seating. The performance features sophisticated magic & smart comedy targeting adults but is family-friendly and appropriate for all ages. The show is headlined by Bart Rockett who hosted his own nationally syndicated television show for three seasons, had a co-starring role on the former NBC Drama Parenthood and headlined his own 1,000-seat theater in the tourist mecca of Branson, Missouri for nine seasons. He has appeared in 85 countries around the globe and headlined for most every major cruise line.

Rockett, who started at the age of 10, trained under Jeff Dunham and is recognized for his excellent comedy ventriloquism which is featured in the show. After growing up in the South, Rockett moved to Hollywood, California where his management team is located. He produced his teens to the finals of NBC’s America’s Got Talent and they have gone on to do major Hollywood projects over the years. Kadan, who starred in the movie Dark Skies with award winning actress Keri Russell and on CBS’s rush hour combines forces with his Sister, Brooklyn to make guest appearances in Rockett’s Destin show.

Brooklyn is well known for her viral Super Bowl commercial that currently has nearly 800 million views on YouTube and most recently played Hollywood superstar Bradley Cooper’s daughter in a project with Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese.

This talented family has been vacationing in Destin for many years and now that Rockett’s kids are almost grown, he is excited to be back for a long-term residency in the place his Grandparents first introduced him to as a child. Rockett shared, “For me, coming back here feels like coming home. Some of my greatest childhood memories happened on these beaches and it’s my desire to bring something unique to the area that is a fun experience for families to attend & make their own amazing memories.”

Nightly shows happen at 7:30 p.m. with 5 p.m. early seatings offered on Sundays and select dates. A variety of alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages are available as well as a full menu of food and dessert offerings before or after the show. Parking is plentiful and free in The Palms Destin Resort multi-level parking garage that is attached to the showroom.

Advance reservations are required and can be made at the official ticketing site: USATourTickets.LIVE.

  • Cook Team Registration Now Open for Eggs on the Beach

Cook Team Registration Now Open for Eggs on the Beach

Calling All Grill Masters: Cook Team Registration Now Open for the 11th Annual “Eggs on the Beach” Big Green Egg Fest Grill for Glory, Trophies, Cash, and a Big Green Egg—All for a Great Cause.

Get fired up! Bay Breeze Patio, the official retailer of Big Green Egg and host of the beloved Eggs on the Beach Big Green Egg Festival, announces that cook team registration is now open for the 11th Annual “Eggs on the Beach” Cooking Competition, happening Saturday, November 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Seascape Resort in Miramar Beach, Florida.

Recognized three times as “Best Local Annual Event” by VIP Destin Magazine readers, Eggs on the Beach is back and better than ever—bringing together backyard grillers, pro chefs, restaurants, and non-profit teams to compete for cash, trophies, a brand new Big Green Egg, and of course, the ultimate prize: bragging rights.

“We’re fired up for year eleven,” said Wayne Paul, co-owner of Bay Breeze Patio and founder of the event.

“It’s a celebration of great food, community spirit, and incredible support from our sponsors and cook teams. We’ve got some exciting surprises in store for both teams and tasters this year.”

Each registered team of up to six grillers will be provided with a large or XL Big Green Egg to showcase their skills, serving up bite-sized creations for both the public and a panel of honorary judges. Teams compete for crowd and judges’ votes in a high-heat showdown of flavor, creativity, and presentation. The grand prize is a large Big Green Egg for the most Taster votes. Cash prizes will be awarded to non-profit cook teams to support their cause, and trophies will be awarded by a team of honorary judges. Every team gets commemorative t- shirts and Wayne’s Get Grillin’ Rubs.

The delicious event raises funds for Fisher House of the Emerald Coast and Food For Thought, two local charities making a big difference in the community. Located on Eglin Air Force Base, the Fisher House provides a “home away from home” for military families to be together during treatment for serious illness or physical/occupational therapy. Based in Santa Rosa Beach, Food for Thought provides backpacks filled with healthy, easy-to-prepare foods for students who are dependent on free or reduced school meals.

For those who have considered owning a Big Green Egg, Demo Eggs, which will be used during the event, will be sold in advance with nest (metal stand) and plate setter for a discounted price. Both large and XLarge Eggs include a limited lifetime warranty, and can be picked up after the event.

Cook team registration is $50 for a team of six and cook team fees are waived for non-profit cook teams, which are competing for a cash donation toward their cause. Taster tickets will be on-sale soon. To learn more or to register a cook team or become a sponsor, visit www.EggsontheBeach.com or call 850-269-4666.

  • 23rd Annual Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic Returns June 18 – 22

23rd Annual Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic Returns June 18 – 22

One of the most thrilling big-game fishing tournaments in the world is back! The 23rd Annual Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic (ECBC) returns to Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort® June 18–22, 2025—bringing high-stakes sportfishing, family-friendly fun and unforgettable summer energy to Northwest Florida’s premier resort destination.

“The Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic has become a summertime tradition, and it’s all thanks to our generous sponsors and the passion of our teams including South Walton, Pelagic, Galati Yacht Sales, and MarineMax,” said Tournament Director Jason Draughn. “We’re excited to welcome back our anglers, crews, and spectators for another incredible year.”

With more than $2 million in cash and prizes, top-tier teams from across the Gulf Coast and beyond will compete to land the biggest blue marlin—each fish must measure at least 110 inches from the lower jaw to the fork of the tail to qualify. In past tournaments, winners have reeled in marlin weighing more than 650 pounds.

Beyond the blue marlin division, the tournament also features catch-and-release categories for blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish, and spearfish, as well as weighed competitions for tuna, wahoo, and dolphin (mahi-mahi)—scored one point per pound.

The tournament kicks off at noon on Thursday from the Destin Pass, with the biggest spectacle unfolding each evening at Baytowne Marina. Official weigh-ins on Friday and Saturday nights draw thousands of spectators who gather to watch the scales in action—cheering on crews as massive catches are hoisted on stage. The energy is electric, with live music setting the perfect summer vibe, vendor exhibitions showcasing coastal treasures, and on Friday night, fireworks lighting up the sky over the marina.

The ECBC is a qualifying event for the Florida Panhandle Billfish Series, InTheBite’s Captain of the Year Program, and the Gulf Coast Triple Crown Championship. To register, contact Julia Brakhage at julia@tournamentcontrol.com, call 910-264-3947, or visit fishecbc.com.

Also returning is the fan-favorite ECBC Golf Scramble, happening Wednesday, June 18, sponsored by Hancock Whitney Bank and Tito’s Handmade Vodka. Open to tournament anglers and sponsors, this friendly competition requires pre-registration. Entry fees are cash only. Sign up at fishecbc.com/scramble.

“We’re proud to host such a prestigious tournament that blends world-class sportfishing with the spirit of coastal camaraderie,” said April Sarver, Director of Marketing and Communications at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. “Whether you’re here to fish or simply soak up the excitement, this is a weekend you won’t want to miss.”

  • Women Veterans Recognition Day Set for June 12

Women Veterans Recognition Day Set for June 12

Each year on June 12, Florida recognizes the women who have served in our military, thanks to a proclamation by Governor Ron DeSantis designating the date as Women Veterans Recognition Day. The occasion commemorates the 1948 signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act, which granted women an opportunity to serve as full members of the U.S. military.

The beloved annual ceremony returns to the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Convention Center this year, featuring keynote speaker Col. Kristen N. Wood, Commander of the 1st Special Operations Mission Support Group at Hurlburt Field. The Snowden-Horne Chapter of the Children of the American Revolution will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

Open to everyone of every age, from children to our oldest citizens, following the program, attendees will process to the beautifully laid-out Dedication Plaza to lay wreaths in honor of women veterans and tour the scenic Women Veterans Monuments, which trace the history of women in service from the Revolutionary War to present day.

Visitors will also notice progress on the new 2,000-foot living shoreline project along Choctawhatchee Bay, aimed at restoring storm-damaged areas from Hurricane Sally and preventing future erosion. The effort is funded by a combination of grants from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the RESTORE Act and local tourism dollars.

This 20-acre site is also a haven for wildlife, with 248 bird species, a nesting heron rookery and a critical stopover for migrating monarch butterflies.

Two new statues will be unveiled this year: Captain Linda Bray, the first woman to lead U.S. troops in combat during Operation Just Cause in Panama, and Florence Finch, a WWII heroine who aided POWs in the Philippines before joining the Coast Guard. Placement of the statues will follow the shoreline project’s completion.

CARE on the Coast Raises Support and Awareness for Sea Turtles

The Gulfarium CARE Center recently hosted its second annual CARE on the Coast fundraiser, and thanks to the incredible support of our community, it was a wave of success for sea turtle conservation! Held on April 26 at the Gulfarium, the event welcomed hundreds of guests for an evening of live music, delicious food, animal presentations, and conservation-focused activities.

The highlight of the night was the chance to celebrate the rescue and rehabilitation work being done year-round by the CARE Center team. Guests met local sea turtle experts, bid in a silent auction, and enjoyed special presentations that underscored the importance of protecting endangered marine life. All proceeds from the event go directly toward the care of injured sea turtles brought to the Center throughout the year.

We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, vendors, and supporters who helped make CARE on the Coast such a memorable night. To learn more about the CARE Center or how you can contribute, visit Gulfarium.com/carecenter.

Meet Lil Joe and Inigo at Manatee Cove—Now Open!

Get ready to float into something new! Gulfarium is proud to welcome guests to Manatee Cove, our newly renovated habitat dedicated to rescued manatees in need of long-term care. This first-of-its-kind exhibit in the Florida Panhandle is now home to Lil Joe and Inigo, two gentle giants who are inspiring a new wave of manatee conservation.

Formerly a dolphin habitat, the 300,000-gallon space has been transformed with manatee-focused features like resting ledges, specialized life support systems, and an on-site medical area. As part of the Manatee Rescue and Rehabilitation Partnership, the Gulfarium is helping relieve pressure on critical care facilities and offering these threatened marine mammals a second chance at recovery.

Guests can visit Manatee Cove during their trip to the Gulfarium, where daily educational chats and interactive displays highlight the threats manatees face in the wild—and how each of us can help protect them. Don’t miss your chance to meet Lil Joe and Inigo and learn their incredible stories of resilience and hope.

Faith, Community and the Sea: Destin’s Week of Blessings Returns May 25-30

    By Lori Leath Smith

We all have our reasons for calling Destin home. Some come for the beauty, others for the lifestyle—but many of us feel we were drawn here for something greater. Yes, to the outside world Destin is now a beach destination. But long before the tourists and high-rises, this was a humble fishing town—a place where hard work met the sea, and faith anchored the community.

Known proudly as the “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village,” I believe Destin’s blessings go far beyond its natural beauty. Every year, we gather to bless our boats, our Harbor, our children, our leaders and our people. Could it be that this annual act of faith and unity brings favor to our city? That beneath the sparkle of our shoreline lies something even more powerful: a shared purpose and a spirit that keeps our little paradise thriving? Many Destin fisherman, locals and area professionals alike will tell you they believe their success rides on blessings.

Destin’s beloved Week of Blessings returns May 25-30, 2025. Organized by the Church of Destin, Inc., this cherished tradition brings together neighbors, businesses, fishermen and faith leaders for a heartfelt week of prayer, unity and gratitude that includes a series of faith-focused, family-oriented activities leading up to Ascension Day, 40 days after Easter, with the Blessing of the Fleet.

Caleb Miller (Anglican), Anastasia Captain Tony Davis, behind brimmed-hat Pastor Allen Newton of Destin Methodist, and Presbyterian Pastor James Calderazzo surround beloved Captain William Frank Davis who served as Commodore of the Blessing of the Fleet for decades. On Thursday, May 29, is the highlight of Destin’s Week of Blessings—the 68th Annual Blessing of the Fleet, Destin’s second oldest, annual tradition that pays homage to our city’s deep-rooted maritime heritage and is held behind Brotula’s Seafood House & Steamer. (The oldest is our annual Fishing Rodeo first held in 1948.)

Fr. Mike Hesse and Bishop Martyn Minns ask God’s blessings on the local Sherrif’s vessel, one of more than 150 commercial vessels blessed in 2024.

This time-honored tradition got started when more than a half century ago, Destin’s Immanuel Anglican Church began blessing a tiny fleet of perhaps four to five boats. From this handful of small boats, the fleet has grown and prospered into the largest fishing fleet in North America, with more than 125 charter-fishing boats. Captains fly the small blue cross-and-dove Blessing of the Fleet flag to indicate they and their vessels have been blessed.

The festivities commence at 4 p.m. with a Captain’s Testimony and Worship Service under the tent, open to all. At 5:15 p.m., the Blessing of the Vessels begins, where clergy from various local churches will bless each commercial boat one-by-one that makes its living on the sea, praying for safety and prosperity in the upcoming season. In 2024, over 158 vessels participated in this important procession.

Church volunteers help serve at the Fish Feast prepared by Brotula’s restaurant, offered for a minimum donation. Public invited!

Following the blessings, attendees are invited to a community fish feast provided by Brotula’s, with donations appreciated. Free parking is available at Brotula’s and the City of Destin’s harbor district lots.

For those not in a vessel, the event can be viewed from various vantage points around the harbor. Additionally, SkyBar at Edge Seafood is hosting a Blessing of the Fleet Watch Party starting at 4 p.m., featuring live music by The Six Piece Suits at 6 p.m. and a firework display at 9 p.m.

Captains wishing to have their vessels blessed can register by emailing immanuel@iacdestin.org with their vessel’s name, captain’s name, business contact information and mailing address.

Though the Blessing of the Fleet is the focal component of the extended week of events, the Week of Blessings is now a 20-year tradition that brings together faith, family and the workplace alongside the fishing community.

For example, at the Blessing of the Marketplace, local pastors gather to pray over business owners, first responders and industry leaders seeking guidance and prosperity for their businesses and the community.

Organized by the Church of Destin, Inc., the Week of Blessings reflects our city’s deep-rooted connection to the sea and its enduring faith through all facets of life. Several pastors make up the ‘Church of Destin’ formed 20 years ago as a symbol of unity, crossing denominational barriers. As the Blessing of the Fleet grew, so did the hundreds of people, families and businesses in the area who also wanted to be blessed. And before you knew it, the vision expanded into a full “Week of Blessings.” That’s how the Blessing of the Marketplace was born, enabling the “blessing” to impact further to other locals, professionals and visitors, too.

“This week is a reminder of what makes Destin truly special,” said one of the event organizers. “We’re a fishing village, yes—but we’re also a faith-filled community that supports one another through every season.”

God continues to richly bless our “Little Fishing Village” and we shall continue to call upon Him to bless, preserve and protect those who make their living from our bountiful seas.
