IV Therapy isn’t as well-known as it should be (yet), which is why we try and answer as many of the more common questions for our clients. One of the main questions I receive is, “Why do I need this if I take supplements at home?” This is a great question and the answer to this SHOCKED me.
The reason you still should do IV Therapy, even if you are taking supplements, is that the bioavailability (or % your body actually absorbs) for regular supplements is incredibly low.
Depending on the type, the absorption rate can be as low as 10-15%. Vitamins taken orally have to pass through your digestive tract, which does what it is supposed to do, and well, digests them.
This prevents the vitamins from reaching the area of your body it needs and also creates an increased burden on your digestive system as a whole.
So, you might think you are taking 500mg of something, but, in reality, your body is only getting 50-75mg of it. That’s definitely frustrating! IV therapy on the other hand ensures the vitamins and minerals bypass your digestive system and go straight into your bloodstream. This means you absorb the full 100% and your body is actually receiving what it needs, in the places it needs them, to perform optimally.
So, whether you are, or are not taking supplements, there is still a very good chance that your body is not receiving the quantity of vitamins and minerals it needs.
Regarding safety, here are some concerns that our clients have had before they experienced these treatments:
• Can I overdose on the vitamins/minerals in the IV?
No, the additives in the IV are given in safe, optimal doses. Your body will absorb what is needed and the remainder will be safely eliminated as waste.
• Is it painful?
Typically, not. Unlike when you have your blood drawn and the needle stays in your arm throughout the procedure, getting an IV is different. With an IV, the needle is taken out right away. Instead, a flexible tube called a cannula is left in place, making it more comfortable for you as you receive the drip.
• Is this supervised by medical personnel?
Yes. One of our professional, licensed and skilled IV specialists will administer and monitor you while receiving your infusion. At Prime IV, we take the safety, comfort and wellness of our clients seriously.
