Shane Moody Named State Chamber Association’s Executive of the Year

Shane Moody 2024 Executive Of The YearThe Florida Association of Chamber Professionals (FACP) awarded Destin Chamber President & CEO Shane A. Moody, CCE, FCCP, with its prestigious Executive of the Year Award, during the organization’s Annual Conference in September in Boca Raton. The award recognizes a chamber executive who has made outstanding contributions to the world and work of chamber management. Awardees must meet several criteria, including strong internal administration and organization, the ability to maintain an increased membership, development of a strategic plan, and an ability to recruit, motivate and reward volunteers.

A few of Moody’s accomplishments during his 31-year chamber career include being a two-time winner of the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) Top Mid-Sized Chamber Award for Excellence; achieving the top three designations for chamber of commerce professionals, including CCE, FCCP, and IOM; serving on various boards and committees of the state and international chamber of commerce associations, including chairman of FACP in 2010-2011; achieving the Destin Chamber’s highest total membership dollars and highest number of Trustee members in 2023; and consulting with many chambers across the state on board trainings and tiered dues implementation.

“This is an award that truly goes to our board, our members, our community and the great people with whom I work every day. Without them, none of what we do is possible. It’s very humbling to be recognized with this award and is truly a testament to all of the coaches, mentors and teachers I’ve be able to meet and from whom I’ve learned. It is, without a doubt, an honor, and is an organizational award, not an individual award,” said Moody.

“Shane leads by example and exemplifies the traits that every true leader should possess. He is admired by his team and is not afraid to make the tough decisions that must sometimes be made by a leader. He has proudly served this industry for more than 30 years, and he truly believes in the mission of chambers,” said Tammy Bracewell, FACP President. Three Dolphins To Be Relocated From Disney’s Epcot To Our Own Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park

Gulfarium DolphinsDisney will permanently relocate its three dolphins from Epcot to our the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park on Okaloosa Island by the end of October. Epcot has had dolphins on display since The Living Seas — now The Seas with Nemo & Friends — debuted in 1986, three years after the theme park opened. In a memo sent to Cast Members, Lou, one of the beloved manatees, will also be relocated. “For decades, Walt Disney World has provided extraordinary care for thousands of fish and marine mammals – including dolphins and manatees that have served as ambassadors for their species, inspiring us about marine mammals and aiding in conservation and research efforts. As we look to the future of The Seas with Nemo & Friends at EPCOT, we are making some changes that require careful thought, prioritizing the wellbeing of these sensitive marine mammals…This decision came after a comprehensive evaluation as to what is best for these dolphins as infrastructure work progresses at The Seas. Through the extraordinary care from our team, these three male dolphins have thrived and led long lives, and we will continue to be a resource while they receive the best possible care after they are moved.”
