Spring will be here before you know it and if you’re like me you want to open the curtains and let the sun shine in. Whether you want to revive a room or you want a quick fix to holdover until next year’s renovation project, here are a few ideas that are easy to conquer and they won’t break the bank.
Paint – The power of a coat of paint can take your space from drab to fab! There are so many color choices to choose from. You can add a pop of color for a fresh and invigorating change or keep the color you have. Either way it will be clean and may also hide a DIY project you weren’t so thrilled with. Paint does magical things when you use the proper sheen.
Add A Mirror – I’m a big fan of mirrors – the bigger the better! Mirrors make a statement, maximize lighting, produce the illusion of space and they keep us looking good (think – is my hair a mess or do I have something stuck in my teeth?). Mirrors come in a variety of shapes and styles that allow you to make a statement.
Update Cabinet Hardware – Spice up your cabinets and drawers by adding new hardware. There are plenty of styles and color choices that are readily available, but if you’re going for a unique look, shop antique stores. Keep in mind that size is important.
Storage For Your Entryway – Are you lacking a closet in your foyer/entryway? You can be storage-savvy by adding a small-scale decorative cabinet or repurposed table. While it may be small, it should have functional shelves or drawers to hold all of your drop-zone items.
Brighten A Dark Corner – Need more light in the corner of your favorite room? Add a lamp. It sounds simple and yet it’s often overlooked. Be sure to choose a well-made lamp that has the appropriate height and weight for your space. Your new lamp should also be able to withstand the wattage you need to brighten the area.
Add Ceiling Details – Paint the ceiling an eye-catching color or add wallpaper. There are so many great wallpaper patterns to choose from. There’s even peel & stick options if you’re afraid to make the commitment. A little overhead flair is always an unexpected welcome.
Update Your Rug – Rugs add warmth and texture to a room. They add comfort over hardwood and tile floors. Rugs also help to absorb sound and establish zones in an open floor plan. Make sure you select the appropriate size rug and pad for your space.
Hang Art – Purchase a new piece of art! Go to a local flea market or thrift store and buy an old piece of art! Attend a “paint night” and create your own piece. Art is the finishing touch that will give your space a fresh new look.
