Dannica Lowery hails from a tribe of musicians and lovers of words. Family gatherings rang loudly with music. She describes them as “Massive familial jam sessions.” A young Dannica first started singing in front of non family members in church. At age 13 she began to write and soon picked up the guitar. Talent runs deep and wide in the family and music is not the only artistic gift. Dannica graduated high school with a full art scholarship. After attending college Dannica felt that she could better express herself through songwriting than visual arts. That is when this lifelong Northwest Florida native decided to move to South Walton and spread her wings. This was in 2008 and she has never looked back.
Dannica Lowery rocked the music scene as a solo act and could be spotted performing alongside local greats such as Heritage and Donnie Sundal. In 2013 when her brother Ben Parsons was about to graduate from FSU, the two siblings decided to join forces. With Ben’s classical music training and Dannica’s earthy spirit and experience this was a great fit. Soon they were off on their first national tour. They transversed the country in “King Triton” a trusty Jeep Wrangler for 8 weeks. Upon returning they formed the duo “Schatzi + The String Boffin’ and soon recorded their first single “Creek Don’t Rise.” After garnishing thousands of plays on Soundcloud within just a few days the duo was signed by Valshebar Records and off they went on another 6 week tour.
Taking a break from the rigors of the road Dannica pursued her passion for Yoga. With a deep understanding of the mind body connection, she put her Yoga Teacher Certification to use and began teaching classes at SoFitCo in Blue Mountain Beach between her local music gigs. In April of 2016 Ms. Lowery sustained a vocal injury due to technical issues with the monitors. After seeing a specialist Dannica states, “ I was ordered to refrain from talking, and to my heart’s absolute anguish, singing. I was crushed and so were my dreams.”
Not to be held down for long, Dannica turned to the visual arts once again. Painting, sketching, and pulling from her native blood, weaving dream catchers in hopes of mystically recovering her dream of music. Using art as an outlet and the spiritual practice of Yoga she built her strength. She shares of staring at herself in the mirror and asking herself through tears “How bad do you want this?!” Dannica says she is humbled and grateful for all of the support she has received from friends and fans and she wants you to know: “I’m still here, and I’m not going anywhere anytime soon, because I have a comeback to make. So the answer to the rhetorical question to myself in the mirror is: “ I want it BAD!”
