Women’s Tournament Field Announced For Emerald Coast Classic

Game matchups for the third annual Emerald Coast Classic women’s basketball tournament were announced by Global Sports today.

Four teams will compete in the tournament Nov. 23-24 which will be held at Raider Arena on the campus of Northwest Florida State College.
Michigan State will face Alcorn State in a semifinal round game at 11 a.m. central time on Monday, Nov. 23, while Virginia Tech will play UT Martin at 1:30 p.m. The third-place game will be played at 11 a.m. on Tuesday Nov. 24 with the championship game scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. tip off on that Tuesday.

Michigan State went 23-9 last season, including an 11-7 record in the Big Ten Conference advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Michigan State earned a No. 5 seed, which was its highest seed since the 2015-16 season. The Spartans, under coach Robyn Fralick, return a pair of All-Big Ten honorees in graduate guard Theryn Hallock and redshirt-junior guard Kennedy Blair.

Virginia Tech posted a 23-10 overall record in 2025-26, including a 12-6 mark in the ACC, while also advancing to the NCAA Tournament. Grad student Carleigh Wenzel, an all-ACC selection who led the Hokies in scoring last year with a 15.6 avg., heads the list of returning starters for Coach Megan Duffy.

Alcorn State played in the Women’s National Invitational Tournament last year en route to posting a 17-14 record. UT Martin recorded a 13-17 mark in 2025-26.
