Something New?

Have you noticed the incredible uptick in digital media and information from folks the last couple years? This pandemic just seemed to accelerate the flow of information in an incredible way. I never knew there could be so many “best-selling authors,” but my social media feeds and email accounts are full of messages from these folks espousing how their technique, method, product or service are the best thing since sliced bread. Almost all are “authors, speakers, best-selling this, #1 of that.”

I’ve noticed another trend: more and more of these messages seem to start with “stop doing this,” or “you’ve been doing that all wrong.” Granted, some of these are rooted in truths I see that will greatly benefit society like spending more time in relationships and always being kind. However, most of these ideas are set out to convince you that said service, technique, method or product is finally the answer you are looking for.

I want to encourage you today that despite all this noise, there still is only one source of complete truth, and you need look no further. Even better, you can still participate in digesting a “best seller,” because The Bible is by far the best-selling book of all time. Here is a short snippet from one of its authors:

“Generations come and generations go, but the earth never changes. The sun rises and the sun sets, then hurries around to rise again. The wind blows south, and then turns north. Around and around it goes, blowing in circles. Rivers run into the sea, but the sea is never full. Then the water returns again to the rivers and flows out again to the sea. Everything is wearisome beyond description. No matter how much we see, we are never satisfied. No matter how much we hear, we are not content. History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Sometimes people say, “Here is something new!” But actually, it is old; nothing is ever truly new. We don’t remember what happened in the past, and in future generations, no one will remember what we are doing now.”

ArborBrook’s calling is to help people with the resources God has given them, but to do a remarkable job in that we have to go way beyond money. Sounds complicated and time-consuming, and it can be if we are like the wind swayed this way and that every time it changes direction, but if we just put our thoughts and actions to the test against timeless biblical truths, our success is guaranteed.
