The non-profit veteran service organization, SOF Missions, is hosting its 6th Annual SOF Missions Destin Gala on April 9 at 6 p.m. at the Henderson Beach Resort.

The gala is open to community members and business owners who want to make a difference in the lives of our “at risk” veterans.

“This wonderful event is a night to come together to raise funds, awareness, and support for our military veterans and their families,” said Dr. Damon Friedman, president of SOF Missions. “Our aim is to collectively heal warriors who are struggling with the visible and invisible scars of war.”

SOF Missions began 12 years ago when Dr. Friedman found out he was suffering from traumatic brain injury. That, coupled with post-traumatic stress, took a toll on his mental health and he was in a very dark place until he finally found help outside of the military and the VA. He vowed to do everything in his power to make sure no veteran goes through that pain.

The gala demonstrates the power of community and provides individuals and businesses the unique opportunity to sponsor warriors through a four-part healing process called The Resiliency Project.

The program is free to veterans who ask for help.

Marine veteran Nate Roberts was one of those veterans who decided to reach out. He said service members go through unique stresses and challenges and then they come home and whether or not they stay in the military, they can become isolated and broken. He said it breaks you, it hurts you, and it’s hard to find a way out. He said the program truly helps.
However, Dr. Friedman worries about the many veterans who don’t seek help or don’t know about the help available to them. “Together, we are making a difference,” said Friedman. “The word is getting out about the challenges our service members face, but there is still so much more work to do and we need to get the word out. We can’t thank those enough who step up to help support our warriors.”

Come to the gala, the largest fundraiser for SOF Missions warriors, and hear stories of their struggles and triumphs. Enjoy an evening of delicious food, raffle items and stories of bravery and redemption, all while supporting this life-changing event.
