Hospital associates and leaders gathered on January 15th to celebrate Sacred Heart Hospital’s 15th anniversary. The celebration, which included birthday cake, followed two days of recommitment ceremonies where associates renewed their commitment to the mission of Sacred Heart, to serve our community with special attention to the poor and vulnerable, with reverence, integrity, wisdom and dedication.

“We are pleased to celebrate another great milestone in our history. Our hospital continues to grow with new expansions and revolutionary technology, but our mission remains the same – to provide an exceptional level of safe, compassionate healthcare for all,” said Roger Hall, president of Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast.  We are grateful for the support of the community and look forward to many more celebrations to come.”

Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast opened on January 27, 2003. Roger Hall carried in the first patient, six-year-old Savanna Hall, who arrived at the Emergency Room just as the dedication ceremony was coming to a close. Forty-nine patients would follow Savanna that day.

The then 50-bed hospital started with 175 associates and 60 medical staff physicians, but the hospital was designed with growth in mind, and every year has seen the launch of new services and an increase of hospital staff. Today SHHEC employs 626 associates, more than 88 physicians and an additional 265 Medical Staff physicians. SHHEC has grown to a 76-bed community hospital offering comprehensive healthcare for emergency care, cardiovascular care, cancer care, obstetrics, surgery, orthopedics and spine care.

Since opening, SHHEC has completed seven major expansions including; comprehensive women’s services, life-saving heart and vascular services, cancer services, increased inpatient and emergency services, increased maternity and pediatric services and soon, level II neonatal intensive care services. The community that requested this facility continues to support its growth today.

Dedicated to providing high quality, person-centered care, the hospital consistently ranks among the top hospitals in the country for the overall patient experience. Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast has been recognized five times as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals for patient satisfaction by Truven Health Analytics.
