People of South Walton: Jennie Rowe and Eddie Hatfield of Kitchens, Etc.

When Jennie Rowe and spouse Eddie Hatfield came to the beach to remodel a kitchen for a client in 2005, their life would never be the same.

Both Jennie and Eddie were raised in southern West Virginia and had operated a thriving, successful business together and had never dreamed of leaving. “Eddie and I opened ‘Jennie’s Kitchen and Bath’ in 1995 in Williamson, West Virginia and we were doing very well, we were very happy,” says Jennie.  “In 2005 we had clients that vacationed in Santa Rosa Beach and needed work done on their property. After two weeks of working here we both knew this is where we wanted to be. I love West Virginia but they don’t have a beach.”  The couple sold the showroom and their home and moved to Santa Rosa Beach in 2006. In hindsight, starting a new business in 2006 couldn’t have come at a more difficult time – first with the recession and then the oil spill. Yet, with adversity comes great opportunity. “We were never spoiled,” says Jennie. “We were used to earning every dollar, so we stayed small and found our niche working one-on-one with our customers on a personal level.”

After working from home the first year, Jennie and Eddie opened Kitchens Etc. in Blue Mountain Beach in 2007.

Jennie is a Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) with over 30 years experience in the industry and supervises each aspect of the sale and installation or renovation of new kitchens from start to finish. “We carry five different cabinet brands, allowing us to accommodate various styles, budgets and lead times, says Jennie. “We carry outdoor cabinetry, framed or frameless cabinets. It’s amazing what new cabinets can do. With a Kitchen or Bathroom,” says Jennie, “you can’t take it for a test drive, so with each customer we take our time, creating computer models, drawings, every tool necessary to create a vision for our customers they are comfortable with. The customer is always involved in the selection of cabinets, colors, handles, etc. They select every single aspect.”

While Jennie supervises the project, Eddie handles the installation of the cabinetry. As a former General Contractor Eddie is familiar with all aspects of the construction industry and manages a skilled network of contractors, plumbers and electricians to bring each project to completion.

“Installation of the cabinetry is so important,” says Jennie. “I can design a great kitchen but if the installation isn’t perfect, the kitchen isn’t perfect. Eddie always goes above and beyond in his work, making sure every job is stunning.”

Kitchens Etc. stands out as leader in their industry here in South Walton. Combining over 70 years experience with extraordinary attention to detail make for an unbeatable combination!
