Out with the old… in with the new.

By Dr. Leesa Haire

New Year’s resolutions have become almost cliché but just in case you are serious about getting your sugar under control, here are some helpful tips.

First step: Diet. Come on, you know you can’t out run a bad diet. Take a break from high-carb foods and feed your cells. This means balance, nutritious meals with minimal processing and no added sugar.

Second Step: Get moving! All you need is two and one-half hours per week to help control blood sugar.
Low impact exercise can be walking, gardening, or any activity if you move!

Third Step – this is where I want you to take a careful holistic look at your nutrients. There are three supplements that are foundational and some for extra support.
Most everyone agrees that omega-3 fatty acids combat the inflammation that is one of the main drivers of metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that include high blood sugar, high blood pressure, inflammation high cholesterol and excess fat around the waist.

Vitamin D is vitally important and helps tame the inflammation. Many studies reveal that a Vitamin D deficiency is directly linked to a higher risk of type 2 diabetes.
Then there is the trace mineral chromium that helps regulate blood sugar and improves how the cells use insulin. It’s also great for food cravings. After all, if your cells don’t burn sugar you wear it.

But you say I get such strong cravings, I got to have it! Let me tell you there is help. Sugar addiction is very powerful and it effects your gut, mood, sinus, chronic congestion and hormones so don’t let it rule you.
