Sleep! Kids fight it, teenagers skip it and adults crave it. Most of us just don’t get the amount or quality we really need. Common sleep stealers are sleep apnea, stress, hormone imbalance, and medications. Embracing a natural sleep cycle is so important to prevent tiredness through the day and wakefulness at night. Researchers have found the most restorative sleep is between 10PM and 12AM. So don’t push through your tiredness in the evening. Go to bed! If your sleep cycle is off, start by getting up earlier to make it easier to fall asleep at night.
Some of the effects of sleep deprivation can be depression, impaired mental clarity, weakened immune response, high blood pressure and weight gain.
Other really important practices are turning off your electronics, even one LED light can cause sleeplessness. Make sure your bedroom is dark and cool. And be sure to avoid naps, caffeine, sugar and alcohol a couple of hours before bedtime.
Essentials oils can be powerful tools to help us relax. As soon as they are inhaled they actually work in the part of the brain that stores emotion, so they really help settle us down. An easy way to get maximum benefits is to diffuse the oils in the room. Lavender, chamomile, sandalwood are very calming. There are many more.
