Online Survey Launches for Joe’s Bayou Recreation Area Improvements Project
In partnership with the city of Destin, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is the implementing Trustee for this Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) restoration project resulting from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. DEP selected Taylor Engineering Inc., DAG Architects Inc. and Halff Associates Inc. to engage the community and conduct project planning, permitting, design, bidding, and construction administration. The improvement project at the Joe’s Bayou Recreation Area and Mattie Kelly Park and Nature Walk will provide and enhance public recreational opportunities and improve access to water resources. Public input and participation will provide planners with crucial insight on how to better serve the community. City of Destin Hosts Community Engagement Public Meeting
The City of Destin staff hosted a public meeting to engage and inform the community and stakeholders of the various planning efforts the Community Development Department is currently working on to include:
• The Land Development Code
• Harbor Capacity Study
• Mobility Plan
• Impact Fee Update
• Comprehensive Plan

Updates
The meeting took place on Wednesday, February 23rd, at the City Hall Annex located at 4100 Indian Bayou Trail. The meeting was open to Destin residents, business owners, employees, property owners, community partners, service providers, and visitors. There was also an interactive presentation that gauged the attendee’s knowledge of the efforts and garnered input and insight on what matters the most to them. Staff is seeking the greatest amount of input from the community and stakeholders to help guide the various efforts based on the community’s priorities, vision, and goals. The survey will be available to the public until Thursday, March 31st.

City of Destin to Host “Spring into Fun” Spring Break Camp
The Destin Community Center will offer a “Spring into Fun” Camp during Spring Break from Monday, March 21 through Friday, March 25. Camp registration is open to residents of Okaloosa County between the ages of 5 – 12. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Cost is $100 for Destin residents and $125 for non-Destin residents within Okaloosa County.

Camp runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. There will be water days, park days (weather permitting), recreation games, crafts and various activities planned throughout the week. For more information, call 850-654-5184 or email Recreation@cityofdestin.com.
