Stage Crafters: A Chorus Line
A Chorus Line examines one day in the lives of seventeen dancers, all vying for a spot in the “chorus line” of a Broadway musical. After the first round of cuts, Zach, the director and choreographer, asks each dancer to speak about themselves. Discomfort opens into revelation, confession leads to redemption, and within the bright, outwardly homogenous chorus, the audience begins to see each dancer’s individuality. From Cassie, the star who just needs the “music and the mirror and the chance to dance,” to Val, a small-town girl with a brand-new big-town body, to Mike, who took his sister’s place in dance class, saying “I can do that.” Based on real Broadway dancers’ stories, as told to fellow dancer and choreographer Michael Bennett, A Chorus Line is funny, heartbreaking and refreshingly honest.

Northwest Florida Ballet: The Nutcracker
Northwest Florida Ballet (NFB) returns to the Mattie Kelly Arts Center to present the 39th annual production of the classic holiday favorite The Nutcracker. Performances will be held on Fri. and Sat., Nov. 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Sun., Nov. 18 at 2:30 p.m. and features live musical accompaniment by the NFB Symphony Orchestra, led by music director and conductor David Ott. This timeless tradition is a celebrated favorite of families along the Emerald Coast as it marks the start of their holiday season.
The Nutcracker is set in a small German town in 1835 to the music of Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky with choreography by celebrated NFB artistic director Todd Eric Allen. International ballet stars Taras Domitro Suarez and Adiarys Almeida Santana will perform the principal roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Prince. Several other international guest artists, the NFB Company and more than 100 local children round out the cast. Box office prices for adults are $38 each and $18 for children 12 & under.
Northwest Florida State College: It’s a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play
Northwest Florida State College (NWFSC) is proud to present Joe Landry’s It’s a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play. Set in a glamourous radio production studio, performers are warming up and preparing to present the live radio show of the beloved Christmas story. This live dramatic and musical performance will take audiences back in time to the 1940’s, when radio shows brought families together for story time and good, old-fashioned fun. It’s a Wonderful Life unfolds with beautiful carols of the season sung by student vocal groups, Madrigal Singers and Belle Voci, and features performances by student actors. It’s a Wonderful Life recalls the story of George Bailey’s Christmas transformation. Audiences will fall in love all over again with George and Mary, and laugh as Clarence finally earns his wings. This holiday classic is bound to give wings to all who attend, and the spirit of joy will soar throughout the holidays.
It’s a Wonderful Life runs in the Mattie Kelly Arts Center Sprint Theater Nov. 29 – Dec. 1, with nightly performances at 7:30 p.m. and a 2 p.m. matinee Sat., Dec 1. Emerald Coast Theatre Company: It’s a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play
It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play by Joe Landry will delight audiences Dec. 6-23: Thurs., Fri., Sat. 7:30 p.m., Sun. 2 p.m. at the Emerald Coast Theatre Company located at Grand Boulevard at Sandestin, 560 Grand Boulevard, Upstairs. This beloved American holiday classic comes to captivating life as a live 1940’s radio broadcast. With the help of an ensemble that brings dozens of characters to the stage, and live, on-stage sound effects, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers a world in which he’d never been born one fateful Christmas Eve. The running time 90 minutes and is for all ages.
