Gulfarium C.A.R.E. Center: May Begins Sea Turtle Nesting Season
As sea turtle nesting season begins, the Gulfarium C.A.R.E. Center is gearing up for another busy summer. Nesting season, combined with the warmer water attracting a variety of marine animals towards the shore, means sea turtles will be abundant along the Gulf Coast until October.
During these warmer months, it is more common for sea turtles to strand, get hooked at fishing piers, and become disoriented by artificial light, which is where the Gulfarium C.A.R.E. Center comes into play. By rescuing and rehabilitating injured or stranded sea turtles, the C.A.R.E. Center gives them their best chance at life before releasing them back into the Gulf of Mexico.
You can help conserve our endangered sea turtles! By picking up your trash on the beach, only using red lights at night near the shore, avoiding single-use plastics, adhering to no-wake zones and safe boating practices, and educating others about sea turtle conservation, you are helping give our local sea turtles the greatest gift: life.
