It’s hard to miss the “Expect Something Different” sign when you walk into the Furniture South Showroom, located on Hwy 98 in Santa Rosa Beach. “The customer has to be number one,” says store owner, Frank Kovach, who along with his wife, Julie, opened Furniture South in October of 2012. The store has seen consistent growth over the past four years, now boasting over 5,000 square feet of retail space and 2,500 items in stock. Each stock item is available for immediate delivery. Today, the Kovach’s employ 12 full-time employees and a staff of five sales designers offering professional consultation and representing more than 60 lines of merchandise.
We asked Mr. Kovach to elaborate on the slogan “Expect something different.” He replied, “Customer satisfaction has always got to be first on your mind. Julie and I have been in the furniture business for over 30 years now, and when a customer walks in, whether they’re looking to decorate or redecorate their home, or perhaps they’re just looking for a few items, in most cases we’ll be able to help them through the selection process.”
Frank operates as General Manager while Julie, an accredited Interior Designer, manages the design staff, offering a free in-store or in-home design service. “We strive to fully understand our customer’s vision and help them make the right home furnishing decision,” says Julie. To help guide customers through the process, they offer an extensive online store featuring 12 designer models differentiated by styles and price points. Customers can select complete furniture packages or piece together singular items. A series of color boards also facilitate decorating decisions. “The color boards,” says Julie, “serve as a guideline or point of reference to give ideas on which color combinations look good together, and which pieces work well together.”
“With all of the competition from online and the ‘big box’ retailers,” says Frank, “it is essential to offer competitive pricing along with superior service to the customer if locally owned retailers are to survive. If the customer is not smiling after the sale and telling their friend, then you will not succeed.” In addition to superior individualized service the store offers discounts of 30-50% off retail prices everyday.
