In November, firefighters from Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Okaloosa Island and North Bay, took part in scenario based high rise structure training. The Destin Fire Control District hosted the training through the Joint Training Committee (JTC), which is comprised of multiple fire departments within Okaloosa County that train quarterly to share knowledge and train together in preparation for any significant incident that could occur in our area.
Battalion Chief Jeff Anderson, Destin Fire Control District stated, “This is a way for firefighters to train together, so when we do have high rise fires, we are trained and ready.”
The training encompassed fire crews deploying, hooking up their equipment, evaluating the set-up, their response to a high-rise incident, continuing education on using elevators in fire mode, the fire pump room and evacuating citizens safely.
Thank you to Silvers Shells Beach Resort and Chuck Cronin for their support in allowing the training to be conducted on their property so area firefighters can properly train in the event of a high-rise fire. We also would like to thank Jason Miller with Advanced Fire Protection Services, Inc., for providing training and discussion on the pump room and equipment functionality.
All COVID-19 precautions were taken during the training.
