In February, Dr. and Mrs. Shruti Bawa hosted a successful, first Destin High School fundraiser with auction items raising over $18,000! Many Destin citizens attended to show their support and businesses donated silent auction items totaling $32,000. Thank you Dr. and Mrs. Shruti Bawa, your staff, member volunteers of the Destin Middle School leadership program and parents.
Next steps:
The Okaloosa school district has 90 days to review the Charter application, interview the governing board and render a decision.
Upon approval of the Charter, the following steps will move forward quickly with the financial goal of $490,000 to complete all steps necessary to open.
From March 2019 – August 2020, 16 months:
• Assist, develop, and establish operations, recruitment, governance, curriculum, and facilities.
• Write and defend a Federal CSP Grant (expected September 2019)
• Conduct an executive search for a Principal (January 2020)
Momentum is building; since February there have been many new accomplishments:
• The community has donated a total $95,807.63.
• School Development issued a letter of introduction – Statement of ability to finance and develop source of funds for Destin High School. This letter was received on January 25, 2019 after representatives from HIGHMARK toured many potential site locations for the new high school. Once the charter is approved the firm will serve as negotiator, facility developer and financier for the school facility.
• January 28, 2019—First National Bank offered Destin High School additional support through a loan in the amount of $200,000.
