“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
These words from Jesus, recorded in the book of Matthew Chapter 7 are timeless. We can glean a lot from these phrases for our lives; but today I’d like to point out a key portion: knowledge is only part of the equation. Without action, knowledge is pretty useless.
We see this a lot in the course of our work helping folks on their journey with money. There are so many tips, tricks, hacks, books, shows, courses, webinars … I could go on. Many of these are great pieces of knowledge; however, without putting them into practice, it is just sand.
Just as important is considering what it takes to build a house. A building like a house requires that many individual parts come together to make the entire structure function as one. This analogy also applies to our financial well-being, meaning, yes, there are individual parts that need to be considered. But those decisions should be made so that the whole “building” is indeed going to work and function together.
All of us encounter rains, rising streams and winds blowing against our “house.” We would love to encourage you today, to take some time to consider if you have built your financial house on the rock or on sand. It’s never too late to firm up the foundation.
