Panama is the crossroads of North and South America opening new worlds for travelers. It has long encouraged visitors to take a deeper dive into its natural and cultural wonders for an authentic travel experience. Many of its infamous sites are centered in and around the international travel hub of Panama City, the only national capital with a tropical rainforest park within its city limits as well as massive skyscrapers and a vibrant historical district. This great city also boasts archaeological remnants of a colonial past and, of course, the technological wonder of the Panama Canal.
Adventurers from all over the world have enjoyed the nooks and crannies of the quaint villages from the coffee growing highlands to the self-governing indigenous community along the Caribbean coast and the traditional Panamanian culture not far from Pacific coastal surfing beaches.
Whether you want to stay in Panama City or venture out on day trips, with each destination you can quickly determine which parks or beaches will suit your needs. You can check travel times, which ferries to catch and more.
Panama opens a wide range of experiences to be had in a variety of settings, such as:
Hiking a volcano, sampling Afro-Caribbean cuisine in Isla Grande, with its pastel-colored cottages, white sand beaches and centuries-old Black Christ statue in the harbor.
Shopping for textiles made by the Gunas in the San Blas Islands or attending festivals on Azuero Peninsula, the cradle of Panamanian folklore and home to good surf spots not to mention snorkeling, diving, kayaking, hiking and wildlife-viewing at numerous parks.
You might want to try this amazing “Winter Getaway” to Panama City March 24, 2022, the name’s sake of our own Panama City, Florida. You will tour the oldest section of the city and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will see the architecture from crumbling facades of days gone by to beautifully restored buildings in classic style.
Next experience the construction history of the canal and see the operation of the lock, as you overlook this amazing masterpiece.
Later, depart for the Gamboa and embark a ship to begin a partial transit of the Panama Canal, narrated by a local expert as you cruise through the Gaillard Cut, cross under the Centennial Bridge, and transit the Pedro Miguel Locks. Enjoy lunch onboard while experiencing the operation of the lock as you descend 30 feet in one step and reach Miraflores Lake. Enter the Miraflores Locks in the Pacific Ocean where you are lowered 60 feet in a two-step process. Sail on the Pacific Ocean, pass under the Bridge of the Americas and disembark at Amador Causeway in the Panama Bay.
After all this, you will enjoy a relaxing stay at a luxurious beach resort or a few days before your flight back home. Call JoDell at (406) 544-8365 for more information and follow us on social media.
Our next Podcasts will feature our latest post-Covid travel experience, including my experience at Universal Studios and my un-cruise adventure ending at a five-star resort in Fort Lauderdale for a few days.
I would like to end my editorial by sharing with my readers how very thankful I am that my husband and I both recovered from our month-long experience in July with the Delta Variant of covid-19. Within weeks of our experience, we learned of several friends and constituents who passed away. Our hearts go out to their families.
