The South Walton Children’s Chorus is set to celebrate its one-year anniversary with the “Splendor of Spring” concert on Sunday, May 6, at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow at Christ the King Episcopal Church. “The Spring concert is a finale to what we have been working on all semester. We finally get to showcase all the beautiful and fun songs we’ve been preparing since February,” said Director of the South Walton Children’s Chorus Kara Bishop. “It’s a celebration of spring and song. And, come on, who doesn’t want to watch a bunch of adorable kids sing their hearts out?” Bishop, a renowned lyric-coloratura soprano who performed across Europe and the United States, has been working with children between the ages of 9 and 13 every Monday since early February to prepare for this event. “The children’s progression since day one has been exponential. I set a high standard of excellence, which they exceed on a regular basis,” said Bishop. “They are always attentive and take my direction immediately. As a director, I really hit the jackpot and have a group of amazing kids.”
The South Walton Children’s Chorus was established in 2017 to teach the youth of South Walton and the surrounding areas to read music, strengthen vocal fundamentals and to form long-lasting
friendships. The Chorus started with just seven children, but now, in concluding its third season, has more than 20 students capitalizing on this opportunity in the community. “Music education is a must. Music is what makes us human,” said Bishop. “We all deserve a chance to partake in something so special.” The Spring Concert will take place at Christ the King Episcopal Church located at 480 N County Hwy. 393 in Santa Rosa Beach on May 6. The South Walton Children’s Chorus provides an opportunity for youth in the community to start getting involved in music. Directed by Kara Bishop, a world-renowned lyric-coloratura soprano who performed across Europe and the United States, the chorus offers children in the area two opportunities a year to learn to read music, strengthen vocal fundamentals and build confidence.
