A Grand Finale in the Sky: How The Alice Turns Weddings Into Once-in-a-Lifetime Experiences

I’ll never forget the moment a couple approached me with a vision that would truly wow their guests years ago for their Florida Destination Wedding. What began as a conversation about a surprise firework display at the end of their evening quickly evolved into something far more extraordinary.

Not only were we planning a grand finale, but we were also orchestrating a deeply personal moment: a gender reveal that would surprise everyone, including the couple themselves.

Months in advance, I coordinated privately with their doctor. Only three people knew the secret; they were expecting a baby boy: the doctor, the fireworks conductor, and myself. Every detail was carefully planned to ensure the reveal would be seamless, emotional, and unforgettable.

Alice Fireworks

As the evening unfolded, guests believed they were attending a destination engagement party. Then came the first surprise, a wedding ceremony that no one saw coming. And just when they thought the night couldn’t get more magical, we lit up the sky in blue!

Fireworks burst overhead, washing the palm trees in brilliant shades of blue. In that moment, the couple, and every guest realized what was being revealed. The joy, the shock, the emotion… it was electric.

Thank you Myly & Rob – (photo credit Tony Gregory) as it remains one of the most unforgettable experiences of my planning career, a perfect example of how thoughtful planning, trust, and a touch of creativity can turn a celebration into something truly once in a lifetime. A key reason we require our clients to have a Planner for their Weddings at The Alice.

Planning a wedding at The Alice Resort & Marina in Destin already sets the stage for something unforgettable and breathtaking, but for couples looking to create a true “wow” moment, few experiences compare to a grand finale in the sky. Whether you choose classic fireworks or a modern drone light show, incorporating an aerial display into your celebration can transform your wedding into a once-in-a-lifetime event for both you and your guests.

Fireworks vs. Drone Shows: Two Spectacular Options

Fireworks have long been associated with celebration, romance, and milestone moments. There’s something timeless about the crackle, color, and emotion they bring, especially when synchronized to music or timed with a first kiss or send-off. For couples drawn to tradition and drama, fireworks deliver a powerful sensory experience that never fails to impress.

On the other hand, drone shows are quickly becoming a sought-after alternative. Using coordinated fleets of LED-lit drones, these displays can create custom shapes, monograms, animations, and even tell a story in the sky. They’re quieter, highly customizable, and offer a modern, tech-forward feel that’s perfect for couples looking to do something different.

Why The Alice Is the Perfect Setting

The Alice Resort & Marina is uniquely positioned to make either option seamless and spectacular. Its waterfront location allows for barge-based staging, meaning your aerial show can be launched safely from the water, away from guests, while still delivering a front row view from the venue.

This setup not only enhances safety, but also elevates the experience. Imagine your guests gathered all together in one beautiful place when the sky over the water comes alive in color or choreography. The reflection off the water adds another layer of beauty, doubling the visual impact and creating a truly immersive moment.

The Importance of Permits and Regulations

While the idea of a fireworks or drone show is exciting, it’s not as simple as booking and lighting up the sky. Both options require proper permits, coordination with local authorities, and strict adherence to safety regulations.

Fireworks, in particular, are heavily regulated in coastal areas like Destin. Permits may involve the city, county, fire marshal, and sometimes even the Coast Guard due to the military surroundings. Drone shows also require FAA compliance, licensed operators, and airspace coordination.

This is where working with experienced vendor partners that understand the strict and proper processes is essential. Ensuring all permits are secured well in advance protects your event, avoids last-minute issues, and guarantees everything runs smoothly.

Why Advance Planning Is Key

Aerial displays are not something you can add on at the last minute. The best providers book out months in advance, and permitting timelines can be lengthy. Weather considerations, safety planning, barge logistics, and show design all require thoughtful coordination.

Starting early allows you to:

  • Secure reputable, licensed and insured vendors
  • Navigate permits without stress
  • Customize your show (especially for drones)
  • Coordinate timing with your wedding planner

With enough lead time, your aerial display can be perfectly integrated into your evening whether it is a surprise reveal after dinner or a grand send-off moment.

Creating an Unforgettable Guest Experience

At the end of the day, weddings are about creating memories; not just for you, but for everyone celebrating with you. A fireworks or drone show adds a shared moment of awe that guests will talk about long after the night ends.

At The Alice, the combination of waterfront views, marina access, and thoughtful planning makes these experiences not only possible, but exceptional. With the right permits in place and a well-executed plan, you can turn your wedding into something truly extraordinary.

Please remember to keep your photographer and videographer on to capture this experience. Because when the sky lights up over the water, it’s more than entertainment, it is a moment you will want to forever remember and one your guests will never forget.
