When Gratitude Overflows

“Gratitude is a quality similar to electricity: It must be produced and discharged and used up in order to exist at all.” — William Faulkner

They say people with a thankful heart see their glass as half full, while others see it as half empty. But I’ve learned that gratitude isn’t really about what’s in the glass—it’s about how we choose to see it.

As you gather with family and friends this Thanksgiving, I encourage you to make it more than a day off filled with food, football and festivities. Let it be a day of true reflection and appreciation. Think of those first Pilgrims, who could have focused on all they had lost—yet instead, they gave thanks for all they had been given: life, new beginnings, a bountiful harvest, friendship, family and a faithful God.

Our nation was built on a foundation of thankfulness, and our lives, too, can hold great promise when grounded in gratitude. Because when we live with a thankful heart, we discover that the glass isn’t just half full—it’s overflowing.

This season, we asked a few of our friends and neighbors what fills their glass with gratitude. Here’s what they shared…

This year I’m thankful for family, friends, life and the journey it brings!

– Tré Baity, Toxic Freedom

So very thankful and grateful for all of those that have collectively brought The Alice to life this November.

– Kristin Sullivan, The Alice Destin

I am thankful for my Destinites Facebook group and all the friendships and support the members give to me and one another.  Such a blessing!
– Patricia Lee, Creator Facebook group Destinites

Having grown up when phones were connected to the wall, now I walk around with a cell phone that I view as my lifeline to the world. I’m thankful to be part of a “bridge” generation that values history and innovation.
