Ideas You Can Really Use!

Here’s to all the great Destin Dads out there—they put time into you and will appreciate anything that shows you care. From recently reopened restaurants to outdoor, social distancing activities, there’s Gulf-side dining to family adventures, and the possibilities are limitless for Dad’s special Father’s Day weekend.

Take Dad to dinner for some fresh seafood or one of his favorite dishes! And hang out for live music and fun! Check out the music and entertainment schedule and dinner specials in the Dining, Music and Entertainment Guide in this Destin Life issue, pages 19-22.

Go Fishing. Destin isn’t named the World’s Luckiest Fishing Village for no reason. With one of the largest charter fishing fleets in the country, take your pick of near shore and deep sea fishing opportunities for you and dad. Some recommendations include Outta Line Charters (charterboatouttaline.com) and Lionstale Adventures (lionstaleadventures.com) for your dad’s deep sea fishing experience!

Go Boating. With the Gulf of Mexico to the South and the Choctawhatchee Bay to the north, there is an abundance of waterways to explore. There are several boat rental companies in Destin that carry Pontoon to speed boats. A fun event for your dad is to take off on the Billy Bowlegs Poker Run, June 20, a fun adventure with the entire family! Visit the Legendary Marine Facebook event page to register.

Enjoy Live Music at the Cultural Arts Village. If you’re a fan of live music, Destin delivers. The Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation’s Cultural Arts Village hosts its concert series on Thursday nights. Check out the schedule in our music section. Then bring your lawn chairs and drinks and enjoy!

Take in a Father’s Day Film. For a relaxing wind-down from Father’s Day weekend, bring your lawn chairs out to Baytowne Wharf’s Events Plaza Lawn at Sandestin and settle in for a free film of “The Secret Life of Pets 2” at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Go Stand Up Paddling Boarding. Take dad on a calming, nature-based water experience. On a Stand Up Paddle Board, you all can paddle out in the Gulf to one of the new artificial reefs or paddle a peaceful coastal dune lake in the Bay. Dad might just slow down a little and enjoy this paddle boarding experience so conducive to our area, but especially if it’s with you!

Book an Electric Bike Tour. Electric bike rentals are becoming one of the most popular new activities in the area, allowing bikers to travel twice the distance they would on a traditional bike. These fun pedal assisted bikes tap into a battery pack that will give your dad and you added speed and endurance. For a Dad who likes to be shown around, gift him with one of the new Eventure Tours that will take him on an “insider” tour of the area focusing on history, art and cuisine. Learn more at eventuretourco.com.

Take a Leisurely Sunset Cruise. For those hard-to-buy-for Dads who want to be a little pampered, spend Father’s Day aboard a SOLARIS Sunset Dinner Cruise. Chefs prepare a menu fit for a king where your dad will be the guest of honor for a three-course culinary experience. The price, including a two-hour cruise and three-course meal, is $70 per adult, $38 per child and $20 for children under 3. Boarding begins at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 21st with cruise from 12:00 – 2:30 p.m. The SOLARIS is docked at the Baytowne Marina at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.

Head to Okaloosa Island for a Crawfish Boil. Featuring Dad’s favorite crawfish boil (individual servings), drink specials and a beer keg hunt! To participate in the beer keg hunt sign up before 12 PM. The hunt starts at Noon. Visit www.thegulf.com.

Create an Old-Fashioned Memory with Ice Cream. Take you dad out for the ultimate ice cream sundae!!! Top with hot fudge, caramel, nuts and whipped cream!!! Yum!! Your dad will love it!

And last, but definitely not least, spend time with your dad on the beach or in the water! Have a picnic, go for a walk, splash in the waves, rent a jet ski or go parasailing…throw down a good time! You can find a plethora of water activities and tours that you can book ahead of time through TripShock.com, many at discounted rates.
