By Krisy Anderson, Owner, Beverly Hills Day Spa
As the seasons shift, I always find myself reflecting on what self-care really means. It’s more than a bubble bath or a day off—though those are lovely! True self-care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting your well-being emotionally, mentally, financially, physically, socially, and spiritually. Fall is a wonderful time to reset, recharge, and prepare for the busy months ahead.
Emotional & Mental
This season, give yourself permission to pause. Journaling, meditation, or even simply saying “no” can be powerful. Laugh more—watch something funny, listen to music that lifts your spirits, or even sit down with crayons and color like a kid again. Cooler fall evenings are perfect for slowing down and reflecting.
Financial
As we head into the holidays, it’s easy to overspend. Start small: review your bills, set a simple budget, and make even tiny contributions to savings. Knowing your credit score and setting short, medium, and long-term goals helps you feel more in control and less stressed when the holiday rush arrives.
Physical
The crispness in the air is an invitation to move. Walk outdoors and soak in the beauty of fall. Fuel your body with foods that heal and energize—think hearty soups, seasonal vegetables, and warm teas. And don’t forget the most underrated self-care tool: sleep. Let yourself REST.
Social
Self-care also means reconnecting—with yourself and with others. Make a list of things you love to do, just for you. Then follow through. Schedule coffee with an old friend or plan a cozy family night. And yes, it’s still okay (and healthy) to turn off the electronics for a while.
Spiritual
As the days grow shorter, light a candle, read something uplifting, pray or simply be still. Whether it’s quiet time alone or attending a service with others, nurturing your spirit helps balance everything else.
My Journey
Owning Beverly Hills Day Spa has been part of my self-care journey, too. When I purchased the spa back in 2007 from my mentor, Betsey Beebee, I wanted to create a place where people could not only look beautiful, but feel beautiful inside and out. It hasn’t always been easy—owning a business never is—but I know it’s my calling. Over the years, I’ve built lasting friendships and relationships that remind me daily of the importance of what I do.
As a mom of two, I understand how stressful life can be. I stay active, I raise my kids, I juggle pets and schedules—just like many of you. That’s why I’m so passionate about helping others make self-care a priority, not a luxury.
Fall Invitation
This fall, I encourage you to set aside time for yourself—whether it’s journaling in the morning, enjoying a walk at sunset, or treating yourself to a spa afternoon. Come visit us at Beverly Hills Day Spa and let us help you relax, recharge and feel like a star.
