Kathy Whidden is the franchise owner of HOTWORX Destin. Before she opened the studio, Whidden served as CEO of Emerald Coast Chiropractic, the family business. “My role is a mix of management and community outreach,” she says. “I oversee daily operations, support our amazing staff, and make sure every member has the best experience possible.”
She also collaborates closely with the HOTWORX team on outreach and events, and “keeping the studio atmosphere welcoming and motivating.”
HOTWORX is a 24-hour infrared fitness studio with virtually instructed workouts inside patented infrared saunas. At the Destin studio, members can choose from nine different 35-to-40-minute isometric workouts (ISO, Buns, Yoga, Pilates, Stretch, Barre None, Warrior, Core, and Bands), plus three quick but intense 15-minute HIIT (high-intensity interval training) sessions (Cycle, Blast, and Row). “Each workout is designed to maximize calorie burn, detoxification and muscle recovery while saving time,” says Whidden.
Whidden’s “small but mighty team of five” includes a full-time general manager and three part-time sales associates. “Everyone on staff is passionate about fitness and customer care,” she says. The key skills for HOTWORX Destin team members are communication, motivation, a knack for sales and a genuine ability to connect with people. “It’s not just about checking in members, it’s about encouraging them, keeping the studio running smoothly and making sure the energy is always positive.”
HOTWORX Destin celebrates its second anniversary this month. A celebratory event, September 6, offered raffle sales to benefit the Destin Fire Department and donations were taken to cycle with a firefighter. “It’s a big milestone for us and a chance to thank our members and the community for their support,” says Whidden.
Throughout September, HOTWORX Destin continues its monthly challenges and member appreciation events, which Whidden calls “a fantastic way to keep people motivated and connected.”
Whidden says HOTWORX has provided a way for people to work fitness into their busy lives without sacrificing results. “For many, it’s the first time they have found a routine they can truly stick to.” The rewards program motivates them to keep coming back. “Beyond that, we have created a community. People don’t just come in for a workout, they come in for support, accountability, and a healthier lifestyle overall.”
Membership is straightforward. “With our $79 Elite Membership, you have 24/7 access to the studio and unlimited workouts. It also includes our nutrition program (DietTrax), the Virtual Personal Trainer, and HOTWORX On the Go integrated into your app. Plus, you will enjoy free access to 800-plus standard studios across the U.S. No complicated rules—just the freedom to book sessions whenever it fits your schedule,” says Whidden.
Some members make it a family affair. Lori Smith, Destin Life publisher, is a member with both daughters, Shaye Smith and Savannah Smith, Savannah’s fiancé Brandon VonLanken, her sister Lisa Turpin and niece Lauren Turpin. “Being a HOTWORX member with my family has been such a gift. Working out together keeps us accountable, pushes us to challenge ourselves, and—honestly—it’s just fun. We leave every session not only feeling better and healthier, but also more connected when we’re working out together. It’s become something we look forward to and a way to support one another while building healthier habits.”
In addition to their web site, HOTWORX Destin is active on Facebook and Instagram. “It’s a big part of how we connect with the community. It’s where we share events, celebrate member success stories, and highlight the unique benefits of infrared training.” Whidden says social media is “crucial to keep people engaged and excited. While our corporate team pushes out targeted ads, our local team collaborates on the rest of the content. We make sure it feels authentic and local.”
HOTWORX’s motto is “More Workout, Less Time,” and they mean it. “With our 3D training—infrared heat, energy, and exercise—you can get an effective workout in just 1r to 30 minutes. We’re also open 24/7, so your schedule never holds you back,” says Whidden. “On top of the time savings, members enjoy real health benefits like detoxification, improved circulation, stress relief, and faster recovery. It is fitness and wellness all in one.”
Other benefits include increased strength, weight loss, improved flexibility, and faster muscle recovery. The infrared heat also boosts detoxification, reduces inflammation, and helps with overall stress relief. “Many tell us they sleep better and feel more energized throughout the day,” says Whidden.
