A few months ago, the article I wrote about one of Destin’s premier golf courses focused on its renovation. Skillfully planned over a two-year period during off season in the winter, the course is now the challenge it promised members and the public.
With tour angled sand protected by capillary liners installed in new bunkers, scores could be improved…if one knows how to hit the perfect sand shot from the bunker onto the green and even in the hole itself!
John Townsend, General Manager, gives credit to the designer and can be quoted as saying “Bill Bergin has enhanced Fred Couples and Gene Bates original design, bringing out its best features and making the course even more enjoyable for everyone.”
During the middle of July, golfers on the Emerald Coast Golf Tour teed up their balls and began a three-day tournament. They enjoyed the new challenge of this beautiful course and had only praise for the course and the staff at Kelly Plantation.
There were three winners after three grueling days in the heat. Grant Leaver emerged victorious as the first-place winner with scores of 71 ,65, and 68 for a total of 204. Dylan Vause and Hayden Carner shared second place with a score total of 217.
Tour director, Geno Celano, attended to present awards and congratulate all the golfers that spent three hot but memorable days on the famous emerald green course nestled in the heart of Destin.
