From Stuck to Strong: Unlocking Belief & Command

Every workplace is full of hidden superpowers—but even the strongest can sometimes slip into the “basement.” Belief can turn rigid when values feel challenged, and Command can hesitate when confidence wavers.

Unleashing Your Co-worker’s Belief Superpower

Do you have a co-worker who’s usually a pillar of purpose and conviction but, at times, seems a little… rigid? I’ve got one on my team who’s normally driven by a strong sense of values and commitment. But recently, when their team’s priorities shifted, they dug their heels in, refusing to adapt to the changes. It was like watching someone with a deep belief in their mission get stuck in a basement of frustration!

This is a classic case of “basement” behaviors for someone with the Belief strength. When their values are challenged, they can become inflexible or resistant to change. But at their core, they have an amazing ability to inspire others with their deep-rooted purpose and guide teams with unwavering integrity.

How can we help them get back to their “balcony” and thrive? Here are 3 ideas:

  • Encourage Open Dialogue– Have a conversation to understand their values and what’s driving their resistance. Acknowledge their concerns and help align their beliefs with the new direction.
  • Reinforce Their Mission– Remind them of the bigger picture and how their values contribute to the team’s success. This helps them see how change can still align with their beliefs.
  • Celebrate Their Integrity – Recognize their commitment and the positive impact their strong values have on the team. This boosts their confidence and reminds them of their power to lead with purpose.

Unlocking Your Co-worker’s Command Power

Do you have a co-worker who’s usually the one to take charge and lead with confidence, but every so often, they seem to take a step back? I’ve got one on my team who’s usually the go-to person when things need direction. But recently, in a meeting, they hesitated to speak up and let the conversation drift without their usual decisive input. It was like watching a natural leader stuck in a basement of doubt!

This is a classic case of “basement” behaviors for someone with the Command strength. When they feel uncertain or things aren’t going their way, they might retreat instead of asserting themselves. But at their core, they have an incredible ability to take charge, make tough decisions, and inspire others to follow with confidence.

So how can we help them get back to their “balcony” and shine? Here are 3 ideas:

  • Encourage Confidence– Remind them of their past successes in leading with clarity. A little reassurance can reignite their natural leadership skills.
  • Invite Their Input– Involve them in decision-making and ask for their strong opinions. This can help them feel more empowered to step back into their leadership role.
  • Celebrate Their Boldness– Acknowledge their ability to take control and make tough calls. Recognition can help boost their confidence and reinforce their leadership power.

By encouraging dialogue, inviting input, and celebrating integrity and boldness, we can help these strengths climb back to the “balcony,” where conviction and leadership shine brightest.
