Bay Baits, a locally owned and operated bait and excursions shop in Santa Rosa Beach, invites anglers of all ages to fish in the the first Bay Baits Inshore Classic May 19 and 20. “With the success of our other annual fishing tournament, the Bay Baits Benefit, we wanted to give the community another chance to come out and enjoy a great weekend of fishing in South Walton,” said Jacob Watkins, co-owner of Bay Baits.
The Trout and Redfish tournament is set to offer prizes valued at more than $3,000 dollars in Bay Baits gift certificates. Each angler, who can win in either the motorized vessel or non-motorized category, will compete to see who can bring in the heaviest trout and/or redfish. Entry into the tournament is $35 and anglers must pre-register through the Bay Baits Website, www.baybaits.com.
Activities start Tuesday, May 15, at 5:30 p.m. for anglers that would like a few tips before dropping their lines with a fishing seminar, which is free for those registered for the tournament and $10 for all others, at The Bay restaurant. Then, on Thursday, May 17, at 5:30 p.m., registered participants can enjoy the Captains’ meeting and dinner. The $25 ticket includes access to the buffet and one draft beer at The Bay.
The competition begins on May 19 at 7 a.m. Weigh-ins will be held both Saturday and Sunday at Bay Baits at the foot of the 331 Bridge in South Walton. On Sunday, May 20, the tournament will conclude with an after party from 4 to 7 p.m. The party will include live music, food, drinks and an awards presentation. Friends and family are welcome to celebrate everyone who participated in the tournament.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Coastal Conservation Association of Florida, the state’s leading nonprofit organization dedicated to marine fisheries and coastal conservation education and advocacy. “CCA Florida is such an important organization. It does so much for our area when it comes to the conservation of our beautiful coast,” said Phillip Poundstone, co-owner of Bay Baits. “We are looking forward to getting the community out to enjoy a day or two fishing in the bay and bayous around South Walton.”
Bay Baits is looking forward to partnering with their title sponsors, Highway 98.1 and The Bay, to make this a unique, local tournament that anglers look forward to participating in each year. To register or for more details about this event, visit www.baybaits.com.
