April gave me another trip around the sun and I am now proud to be 63! And, May is giving me my 33rd opportunity to celebrate my own motherhood. April and May always hold special meaning for me since 17 years ago I was told I “might’’ be fortunate enough to live a couple of more years. Every birthday and Mother’s Day is extra sweet. When I say that all I care about is spending time with my children, I really mean it. However, let’s all admit that it’s also fun to get a little gift or get a surprise on our special days. Below are some ideas mentioned in our Destinites Facebook Group and a few of my own that I hope will help you make someone’s day very special.
Mother’s Day gift ideas:
1. Create a personalized book with her children as the characters. You can find this at www.wonderbly.com
2. Hire someone to deep clean the house.
3. Spa Day, which includes her best friend. Saltwater floating spa here in town would be fun.
4. Moms with small children love homemade gifts the best.
5. Picture album of some memorable times in her life.
6. Fun, interesting day trip. Lots of places you could go.
And, here is my favorite:
7. Cook her breakfast, lunch and dinner and in between, play games, watch movies or do anything else Mom wants to do and just make the whole day about her. Sing her some songs, write her some poems, put on a skit, use your imagination!
If your own mother is not still in your life, I encourage you to reach out to someone from your past who treated you like one of their own and celebrate her. Let her know how much she means to you. If nothing else, reach out to someone who maybe has lost a child and could use some encouragement and acknowledgement that the time they did spend as a mother was important and made a difference.
I invite everyone to visit our Destinites website and sign up for our monthly email newsletter free to all. Also, if you are actually a resident of Destin or the surrounding area, I invite you to join our very active, private local Facebook group of 6100-plus members. It is a place where you can reach out for immediate help, ask for recommendations, discover community happenings, have a laugh, make a new friend and more. See you there!
